well technically if it wasn't on a console does it count? i mean online, user created levels, profiles, second life, even achievements were done on the pc yet are used as examples of why other consoles offered something new.

Why would anything other than games be pushing Wii sales? Yes, it is the cheapest console, but $250 is still not something to throw around if you don't plan to use it. Wii's only function is to play games, not be a multimedia center of your house. Whether you personally enjoy games on Wii or not has no effect on the fact that a great number of people do enjoy them.

Here's a quick comparison of consoles available on Ebay

Wii- 1671 New, 314 Used

PS3-382 New, 250 Used

This tells me that proportionately more people that buy Wiis keep them to play games and that this mass hypnotised purchasing that everyone talks about must be wrong.

You should pick your words better next time then. You didn't say more you said Better. Those games were so much better that they lost to GC games for GotY.

they release a bunch of games that you are alot of fun at the start, because of the innovation it brings, but the game itself doesn't have alot of depth, it feels like a mini game and after a while it isn't fun anymore (i'm talking about wii sports) and thanks to the low price, it allows people to buy another game to become satisfied because the first game lasted short, and then the new game is fun but also gets boring after a while, and so the costumer keeps getting hungry for satisfying games to the point that even crappy games like pokemon battle revolution sells well!

Yeah...pretty much. Games are being built to showcase the Wiimote rather to actually fully immerse you into the story or lack thereof.

Wii Play, Wii Sports, Zelda, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Super Paper Mario, Resident Evil 4, and Mario Party 8 are selling very well.

Also, regarding you prediction of GTA and Halo making the 360 the victor: Xbox had 2 Halo games and 3 GTA games and it still lost. Granted, the GTA games were timed exclusives on PS2, but still.

Umm, not only did Halo 2 outsell MGS 3 and MP 2, the 360 has the extra year advantage the PS2 had. If you don't think Halo 3 or GTA IV will move units, you're just another sheep. Wii is selling because it's attracting people easily amused by such crappy, empty, shallow titles such as Wii Sports and all that crap. The only real good games are ports of good games. The price grap between the Wii and the 360/PS3 is much bigger than that between the Gamecube and PS2/XB. That's also another factor. $250 vs. a $600 PS3, for example which one is the soccer mom gonna buy?

Because it is accesible to people who are not used to playing console games. People don't realize how off putting modern controllers are to a lot of people, not just non-gamers but also PC gamers used to playing with KB/M. People can slag off the controls for games like medal of honor on Wii all they like (and some of the motion controls are absolutely crap and unresponsive in that game) but I would still rather play an FPS with the wiimote than with a dual analog controller. Playing RE4 on the Wii and targeting with the wiimote with pistol versus the anolog stick for sniping perfectly illustrates how much better the wiimote is.

I agree. 13 and under are the ones that are asking their moms for a Wii. If I was a kid, I would think that the motion controls were cool (but I would be wrong).

i think user friendliness is KEY

a lot of people simply refuse to play video games with those traditional controllers.....those traditional controllers just aren't intuitive to use for people who didn't play video games as kids

wii fixed that problem, and made console gaming user friendly for almost anybody

i think what is pushing wii sales are wii owners. when people come over to my place i have a 56 inch 1080p tv with a ps3, 360, pc and wii hooked to it. everything they see i have a wii they want to try it out. i put in tramau center, sonic, or rayman and they just have a blast. if i have more than 10 people over then monkey ball and wario ware get played all night long. people love the games wether they are causuals or non gamers because it is a fun and fresh experiance. you dotn have to just sit still like a drone anymore. you can get up make an@$$$ out of yourself have a blast while still being mainstream. it is a fun console and i would say 70 percent of the people who have played it at my house start asking me about price and where they can pick one up. now when i go to other peoples places they all seem to be getting wiis. My freind wagon even bought a 42 inch lcd 1080p lcd (my freinds and i are not as poor as most gamers, we work hard for tha money!) that he set up outside near his jaccuzi. so we can really get into wii sports if we want. sometimes we even get to where we are playing tennis so real we should just go to the courts haha. the wii is a fun experiance. not to say playing games on xbox live is not fun. it is just different. i feel more connect to the game playing it on the wii. on the 360 i will have a phone call going and my laptopon talking to clients and relatives. with the wii i really get into the game and pay attention to what is going on. rrr... i have rambled enough.frankeyser

its a great console to have when you have freinds over with time to kill

can't always say the same for 360/ps3.....because certain friends just aren't gamers and will be completely turned off if i tried to bring out my xbox 360 with gears of war. i tried that before, and most of the time it just turns out that half my friends play video games and will be interested in a game like gears, while the other half don't play video games and will be completely bored.

now when i bring out my wii with a game like wii sports, it turns out to be quite a bit of fun for everybody.....and some people even end up convinced into buying it
